In a very short span of time, Orient Green Power has grown to become India’s largest Independent Renewable Power Producer. This achievement is testimony to the potential that ‘green power’ or renewable energy holds for the nation’s future. The goal is to reach 1000 MW of installed capacity and is an eminently achievable task, given the pace at which projects are progressing.
Our guiding principle is that energy must be generated by material that is either going waste, underutilized or by tapping into nature’s largesse – wind and sunshine. The methods to harness renewable energy are growing more sophisticated by the year and we will be at the forefront of the movement that drives both adoption of new technologies and lowering costs of generation while keeping the environmental impact to a minimum.

One of the leading independent operators and developers of wind farms in India based on aggregate installed capacity - the wind energy business form Orient Green Power focuses on the development and operation of wind farms in India, Europe and South Asia.
The flow of wind speeds has an important bearing on generation capacity. Orient Green Power has years of experience in determining the best location and putting up wind turbines for maximum efficiency. Even the design of our wind turbines is optimized to get the best out of low wind speeds at varying points during the year.
With a total capacity of 250 MW form wind, our wind farms are located in the states of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, which are among the top four Indian states with the highest wind potential. The presence in Tamil Nadu is being expanded along with other locations in Andhra Pradesh,
Gujarat, Karnataka and Maharashtra. |

The biomass power business focuses primarily on the development and operation of multi-fuel biomass based power plants that generate electricity from agri-residues and waste from agricultural crops, forestry and related industries, such as rice, mustard and soya bean husks, straw, cotton and maize stalks, coconut and groundnut shells, wood chips, poultry litter and bagasse.
OGPL targets regions with sufficient availability of biomass, favourable incentives for renewable energy companies, attractive tariff structures and higher demand for electricity. The company currently operates seven biomass plants and one biogas plant with an aggregate installed capacity of 60 MW in Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Rajasthan.
Biomass power plants are under construction in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan totaling 45.5 MW of capacity, which will go on stream this year. Also plans are on to add new plants in Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Rajasthan in Indian and at Hambantota in Sri Lanka. |
